Why I am Starting a Golf Academy

About Me

My name is Drew Howser and I grew up in a small town in Virginia called Warrenton. My father was an athlete growing up and got me into multiple sports at a young age. Growing up I primarily played baseball and basketball but my dad took me to the driving range occasionally so that he could try and get me into the game of golf. For multiple years it was just that while I traveled state to state playing baseball. Finally around the age of 12 I took a stark interest in golf and started to take the game more seriously. I started taking lessons and learning about the golf swing to not only improve my game but maybe help others and their game as well. Once I figured out that the golf industry is where I wanted to end up, I looked into the PGA golf management program. After looking at multiple schools that had the program, I ended up at Campbell University.

Education and Knowledge

I am currently a freshman at Campbell University enrolled in the PGA Golf Management program studying the ins and outs of the golf industry in order to become a PGA professional. Obviously only being a freshman means that I have not learned all that is needed but I feel that with the research that I have done and the knowledge that I have, I would be able to provide customers with the help they desire to better their game and shoot lower scores.

My Goals and Visions

My end goal with starting this golf academy is not to just make some money. What I want out of my academy is to help others become the golfer they want to be. I spent many years struggling and upset with my game out on the course and with the help that I received from multiple industry professionals, I was able to improve my golf game and I want the same for all of my clients. However, I am not only interested in lessons and player development. I have always been intrigued by the equipment and fitting side of golf. In the future I want the Drew Howser Golf Academy to become a leader in custom fitting. I have found that issues with the golf swing is not the only factor affecting a player's skill, but also the equipment they use. When a player is using clubs too long or too short, or shafts that are too stiff or too flexible it greatly decreases the ability to consistently hit the ball where they want to, and that is a part of the industry that I want my academy to expand into.

Lessons and Development

At the academy we will provide golfers of any skill level individual or group lessons. When it comes to individual lessons they will be provided in either 30 minute or 1 hour long sessions at $30 per half hour. Group Lessons will be offered based off of skill level. There will be beginner groups, intermediate groups, and advanced groups. I have found that putting golfers with others of similar skill level will make them more comfortable and therefore improve their game the most.
